Subliminals and Manifestation:
The Hidden Power of the Subconscious
Interview with Dr. Maria Teresa De Donato
by Elisa Rubini
Subliminal messages are among the most discussed
tools in the world of manifestation and personal growth. Some use them daily to
foster internal change, reinforce new beliefs, and support the achievement of
their goals. But what are they really? Can they influence the subconscious? And
what role can they play in the manifestation process? We asked Dr. Maria Teresa
De Donato.
Dr. De Donato, what exactly are subliminal
messages?
Subliminal messages are sensory stimuli presented below the threshold of
conscious awareness—such as images flashing too quickly to be noticed, or
sounds played too quietly to be consciously heard—that can nevertheless be
perceived by the subconscious.
When and how did you become interested in this
topic?
I've always been interested in these types of topics since I was young. Over
the years, thanks to esoteric, religious, and spiritual paths linked to aspects
such as "faith," "belief systems,"
"visualizations," and "rituals," in addition to my academic
background in Holistic Health and the study of techniques such as Autogenic
Training and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, I have had the opportunity to delve
deeper into these topics. I discussed many of them in my publication,
"Dynamics of Illness and Healing," in which I presented the results
of my research, which, among many other factors, considered belief systems and,
from this perspective, was very interesting.
Subliminal messages are fascinating because they operate below the threshold of
conscious perception, potentially influencing thoughts and behaviors without
individuals' awareness. This raises questions about free will and the extent to
which external stimuli can shape our decisions and preferences.
Why is the subconscious considered so important
in the process of manifestation?
The subconscious is considered fundamental to the process of manifestation
because it governs how we think, feel, act, and live, influencing the beliefs
and actions that lead us to realize our desires. The Conscious Mind and the
Subconscious can be compared to two databases, but the Subconscious, as a
database, contains far more information than the Conscious Mind. This means
that the Subconscious can control our lives without us realizing it, even in a
negative sense, if we allow it to. This happens, for example, if the language
we use is negative. If we constantly use expressions like: "I'll never
make it...", "It's too difficult for me...", "I can't do
anything right...", "I'm not as smart as I seem...", etc., etc.,
we SELF-SOBOTICIZE and PROGRAM our lives toward failure because the impact the
Subconscious has on us is far greater than that of the Conscious Mind.
It is therefore essential to be aware of these
mechanisms and pay attention to the language we use and the thoughts we have,
even if we don't express them verbally. If we realize they are predominantly
negative, we REPROGRAM them, converting them into positive, constructive
perceptions, words, sensations, and thoughts.
By aligning the conscious and subconscious minds, positive thoughts allow us to
attract and manifest our goals effectively.
How do unconscious beliefs influence our daily
choices?
Unconscious beliefs shape daily choices by acting as automatic filters that
influence perceptions, emotions, and behaviors outside of conscious awareness.
They are often formed in early childhood and are strengthened by repetition and
emotional intensity. They can lead to self-sabotage or habitual reactions—such
as overcompensation at work to hide insecurity—which, while appearing natural,
stem from subconscious patterns.
Can subliminal messages help identify and transform limiting beliefs?
Subliminal messages are sometimes used alongside techniques such as affirmations or visualizations to influence the subconscious and counteract negative thought patterns. Some approaches suggest that by repeatedly exposing oneself to positive affirmations, it is possible to transform limiting beliefs into more empowering ones gradually.
What's the difference between conscious thought and subconscious programming?
Conscious thought involves awareness and deliberate decision-making, while subconscious programming operates automatically, influencing habits and reactions outside of conscious awareness. The conscious mind makes choices, while the subconscious mind manages learned behaviors and emotional responses.
How do Subliminals work on the mental and
emotional level?
Subliminal messages work by transmitting information below the threshold of
conscious awareness, allowing them to bypass the critical thinking of the
conscious mind and directly influence the subconscious. This process can help
reshape thought patterns and emotional responses, promoting positive changes in
behavior and mindset over time. Under the right conditions, subliminal messages
can influence choices, behaviors, and attitudes.
Is it correct to consider them a tool to support
manifestation?
Subliminal messages are often considered useful tools for manifesting events or
goals. In my opinion, effectiveness depends largely on the individual's belief
system, their perseverance, and their determination to pursue their goals. It's
a bit like natural therapies: some heal exclusively with holistic methods,
others integrate them with conventional systems, and others who don't believe
in them at all either don't use them or use them but don't benefit from them.
What are the most common mistakes made by those
new to Subliminals?
Among the most common mistakes are failing to choose the right subliminal audio for specific goals and inconsistent listening. Many beginners also underestimate the importance of a quiet environment for effective listening.
Many people expect immediate results. How
important are consistency and repetition?
Consistency and repetition are necessary to achieve results, as they strengthen commitment, create momentum, and help transform goals into lasting habits. By maintaining regular attendance and consistent commitment, you train your mind to prioritize goals and cultivate discipline over time.
Do subliminals work the same way for everyone, or
are there individual differences?
Subliminal messages may not work the same way for everyone, due to individual
differences in unconscious processing and personal receptivity to such
messages. As I mentioned earlier, factors such as personal beliefs,
experiences, and mental states can influence how effectively subliminal
messages impact behavior and thoughts.
How important is it to accompany listening to
subliminals with concrete and consistent actions?
It's essential to accompany listening to subliminals with concrete and
consistent actions; they aren't a "magic pill" and require your
conscious will to change for the messages to take hold and manifest
effectively. Without concrete action, the effectiveness of subliminals could be
significantly reduced.
What role do emotions, beliefs, and internal
dialogue play in the manifestation process?
Emotions, beliefs, and self-talk are crucial to the manifestation process, as
they influence your vibration and alignment with your true Self. Processing all
emotions, including negative ones, and maintaining positive beliefs can enhance
your ability to manifest your desired results.
Are there specific times of day when listening to
subliminals can be more effective?
The best times to listen to subliminal messages and achieve maximum
effectiveness are while falling asleep and in the first 15 minutes after
waking. During these phases, the brain is in a theta state, highly receptive to
new programming.
How can you distinguish a genuinely produced
subliminal audio from one that's been created without specific criteria?
To distinguish a professionally produced subliminal audio recording from one
created without specific standards, you need to check the audio clarity, the
effectiveness of the masking techniques, and the use of well-structured,
goal-specific positive affirmations. Furthermore, professional recordings often
use advanced methods, such as frequency manipulation and repetition strategies,
to enhance their effectiveness.
Can subliminals be integrated with meditation,
creative visualization, or other personal growth practices?
Yes, subliminal messages can be effectively integrated with meditation and
creative visualization to promote personal growth by programming positive
beliefs into the subconscious. This combination can help activate the
subconscious and support the realization of one's goals and dreams.
In your experience, have you observed any
particularly significant cases involving the use of subliminals?
I know some people have reported using Solfeggio frequencies and binaural beats
embedded in subliminal audio tracks to promote manifestation and dissolve
mental blocks, citing their own experimentation with long-playing tracks during
sleep and daily activities.
Personally, in my holistic and coaching practice,
I use positive affirmations and visualizations.
What are the most common myths about subliminals
and manifestation?
Among the common misconceptions about subliminal messages is the belief that
they can significantly change behavior or fulfill desires without any conscious
effort. The belief that subliminal messages can directly influence actions
without the subject's active and conscious participation is a myth precisely
because, as we have seen, for such goals to be achieved, the conscious mind and
the subconscious must act in harmony and be in tune. This implies a conscious
will to undertake an action and carry it through to completion, that is, to be
co-creators of one's life rather than passive spectators.
What advice would you give to those who want to
begin a manifestation journey through subconscious work today?
To embark on a subconscious-focused manifestation journey, it's essential to
understand how crucial it is to reprogram your thoughts and beliefs. Start by
writing down your desires and associating emotions with them: this will help
you raise your energetic vibration and align you with what you want to
manifest.
In conclusion, what message would you like to
leave readers interested in better understanding the relationship between the
mind, the subconscious, and manifestation?
The subconscious acts as the hidden driving force of your life, silently
shaping thoughts, feelings, and behaviors based on the "seeds" you
plant through repetition and emotion. Therefore, aligning conscious goals with
subconscious beliefs is crucial for effective manifestation.
