Love never fails

There are too many expressions of love in our world today. Actually it can be said that there is a confusion of love, of what it is. How do we know what true love is like? This question has been unanswered despite many attempts in literature, poetry, visual arts and cinema to portray this elusive thing we call love.

And still, despite many unsuccessful attempts to define love, we humans have never given up our search for 'real love'.

In the Bible the true love, unique love or Divine love is called agape.

Andres Nygren in his tome ''Agape and Eros'' wrote that 'Agape love is unmotivated in the sense that it is not contingent of any value or worth, in the object of love. It is spontaneous and heedless for it does not determine beforehand whether love will be effective or appropriate in any particular case.'

According to the Bible this is how God loves and how we also are supposed to love everybody and everything. As conseguence, Love [agape] never fails because divine love always takes into account the object of its love. In fact, what this kind, true agape love is and how it can and should be applied is beautifully summarized by the verses in 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13:4-8 where we read

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, it always perseveres. Love never fails.
